Privacy Policy

1. What this covers

This policy covers personal data about you — the person using VeriVote — across both places we offer the service: the website at verivote.ai and the VeriVote mobile app for Android and iOS. Where the two differ, this policy says so.

It does not cover the political record VeriVote publishes. Statements, votes, contradictions and credibility scores concern public figures acting in public roles, are compiled from public records and published sources, and are not personal data about our users. How those scores are produced is described on our methodology page.

2. Data we collect

Account data. Authentication is handled by Clerk, our identity provider. When you create an account, Clerk stores your email address and, if you provide them, your name and profile image. We do not operate our own password store and never receive your password.

What you create in the product. Your preferences and settings, any watchlists you build and the officials on them, and any polls you save. These are stored against your account identifier.

Optional analytics. Product analytics via PostHog, hosted in the EU. This is off until you accept it, on the website and in the mobile app alike — see section 4.

Technical data. Ordinary server and delivery logs generated when your device requests pages or API responses, including IP address and user-agent, used to operate and secure the service.

3. The mobile app

The app is the same service in a different wrapper, and collects the same categories as the website. Three specifics are worth stating plainly, because they are what the app stores ask us to declare:

• Account data — the app signs you in through Clerk, exactly as the website does, and collects your email address for that purpose.
• Analytics identifiers on the device — if, and only if, you accept analytics, PostHog generates an identifier for your app installation and records which screens and features are used. The app asks once, and the switch under Profile turns it back off at any time. Decline and none of it runs.
• No advertising or tracking identifiers — the app does not read your device advertising ID, does not track you across other apps or sites, and contains no advertising.

The app reads the political record through our public API rather than holding its own copy, so browsing it sends the same requests a browser would.

4. Analytics is optional

We use PostHog (EU-hosted) to understand which parts of VeriVote people actually use. It is not initialized and captures nothing until you actively accept it. While your choice is unset or declined, no analytics runs and no analytics identifiers are set.

When analytics is on, what it records is usage — screens viewed, features used — not content about you. We do not send your email address or your name to our analytics provider. On the website, if you are signed in, events are associated with your account identifier and your country so we can tell repeat sessions apart; in the mobile app, analytics is not linked to your account at all.

On the website the choice is made in the cookie banner and can be changed as described in our Cookie Policy. In the app it is the switch under Profile.

5. How we use data

To sign you in and keep you signed in; to store and show the watchlists, settings and saved polls you create; to send alerts you have opted into; to operate, secure and debug the service; and — where you have accepted analytics — to understand usage and improve the product.

We do not sell personal information, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles. We do not use your personal data to train the models behind our contradiction detection; that works on the public political record.

6. Who else processes it

We keep this list short deliberately. Each provider processes data on our behalf, for the purpose named:

• Clerk — authentication and account records.
• Supabase — the database holding your settings, watchlists and saved polls.
• PostHog (EU) — product analytics, only after you accept.
• Vercel — hosting and content delivery.

These providers may process data outside your country of residence, including outside the EEA. Traffic to VeriVote is served over HTTPS.

7. Cookies and on-device storage

We use strictly-necessary cookies for sign-in and preferences, and store your analytics choice on your own device. There are no marketing or cross-site tracking cookies. The full inventory, including the exact keys and how to change a choice, is in our Cookie Policy.

8. Deleting your account and data

You can delete your account yourself, without contacting us. On the website, use Settings; in the mobile app, use Profile. Both ask you to confirm, and the deletion cannot be undone.

Deleting your account removes your Clerk account and, with it, your settings, your watchlists and everything on them, and your saved polls. We retain a deactivated account marker so a reissued account identifier cannot be confused with yours; your email address, name and profile image are erased from it at the same time.

9. Your rights

EEA and UK (GDPR). You have the right to access, correct, export, restrict and delete your personal data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time — withdrawing analytics consent is a single switch and takes effect immediately. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

California (CCPA/CPRA). You may request disclosure of the personal information we have collected, request its deletion, and are entitled not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CPRA.

10. Children

VeriVote is intended for adults following political affairs and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email admin@verivote.ai and we will delete it.

11. Changes

When this policy changes we update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we handle your personal data, we will say so in the product rather than rely on you re-reading this page.
